For the second year in a row, schoolchildren in Ukraine study in conditions of full-scale war. With the end of October, students will start their traditional autumn vacation, which will give them the opportunity to rest for a week from studying. As the head of the Department of Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture Roman Hrytsai informed, the holidays for schoolchildren of the Drogobytsk Territorial Community will start on October 28 and last until November 5. Therefore, full of strength and energy, students will sit down at their desks on November 6.
School administrations can determine the dates of vacations independently, but students cannot have less than 30 calendar days of rest during the academic year – this norm is determined by Clause 4 of Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine “On Comprehensive General Secondary Education”.
In addition, as explained in the local department of education, this year the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine recommended a one-week autumn vacation for all students. As last year’s practice showed – the lack of autumn vacations and combining them with the winter vacation period, due to the energy crisis and blackouts, affected schoolchildren – the children were tired and passive in lessons.
As for the winter vacation period, this year it will begin on December 23, before Christmas, which this year will be celebrated on December 25 according to the new church calendar. According to preliminary information from the Ministry of Education, the duration of the winter vacation will be 3 weeks. However, everything will depend on the energy situation in the country this winter and the frequency of shelling by the occupiers. So, in the last academic year, the winter vacation was extended due to long-term power outages.
In addition, 12,127 students are getting an education in general secondary education institutions of the Drohobych territorial community this school year.
