On March 22, 2024, Junior Achievement Ukraine held the first Financial Literacy Tournament in Lviv as part of the Global Money Week project.
Junior Achievement Ukraine organized and implemented a financial literacy competition for the first time in its history in Ukraine. Teams of five players each were invited to the tournament from among the educational institutions participating in the Financial Literacy program from JA Ukraine.
The tournament took place from March 7 to 22 in two stages. The first round was held online on March 7 and 8 and determined the ten finalists among 215 participants from 11 regions of Ukraine.
The second and final round took place on March 22, 2024, in Lviv. The 10 best teams from all over Ukraine competed and demonstrated their level of knowledge in personal finance management. Throughout the day, participants solved cases, tasks, and problem situations from experts. In addition, the teams presented their own ideas on the topic “Financial product or service of the future” to a professional jury.
“In the academic year 2023/2024, Junior Achievement Ukraine for the first time started implementing the international financial literacy program. More than 150 educational institutions in Ukraine have begun to teach this discipline using the educational materials of our organization. This tournament is a great opportunity for young people to demonstrate their level of knowledge and compete with their peers. We are very pleased that more than 215 participants from 11 regions of Ukraine took part in this event and the results they showed indicate a high level of assimilation of the educational material and its effectiveness. We are confident that the knowledge gained will allow them to manage their own finances more confidently in the future,” says Vira Druhova, head of the Financial Literacy program at JA Ukraine.
The winners of the tournament were determined after 6 rounds:
3rd place – the Mantra team from the Sokyryansky Lyceum No. 1.
2nd place – the team “Business Girls” from the vocational school 35 of m. Stryi.
1st place – FINCOFEIN team from Lviv Vocational College of Hotel, Tourism and Restaurant Services.
All the teams and their mentors who took part in this event gained invaluable experience and unique knowledge that the Financial Literacy program provides in a creative, competitive process. Therefore, the Financial Literacy Tournament from JA Ukraine will become an annual event within #GlobalMoneyWeek to improve the level of financial literacy of Ukrainian youth.
