On December 20, 2023, a memorial plaque in memory of the fallen Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Zhelisk was opened and consecrated on the facade of the school building in the village of Varyaz.

During the consecration, Father Vasyl, in his speech, urged not to forget those who gave their lives protecting the Ukrainian land from the enemy.
The director of the school Yaroslav Gavryliv emphasized that this commemorative plaque on the facade, when walking to the school, will always remind everyone who studies and will study about the soldiers who fought for our independence and peace.
The village headman Yury Horodko recalled that the deceased Dmitry was known not only in his native village of Rusyn, but also in the surrounding villages, as a sincere person, a reliable friend, a good classmate and a comrade who would always come to the rescue and lend a shoulder.
City Mayor Serhiy Kasyan addressed the parents with words of deep gratitude for his son’s feat, saying that time does not heal parental wounds and heartache, we have no opportunity to bring the dead Dmytro back to life, but we express our respect for raising a real hero who gave his life for a peaceful sky over a free Ukraine.
