A teacher from Skole district is among the ten best teachers in Ukraine

On Sunday, 1 September, the Osvitoria public union announced ten finalists who will compete for the national Global Teacher Prize in 2024. Among them is Larysa Romanyshyn, a teacher of chemistry, physics and biology at Skole Secondary School No. 2. The organisers of the award say that the teacher started her career as a chemical engineer, but switched to education.

“With the outbreak of full-scale war, Larysa joined the School to Go volunteer project, which enables Ukrainian children around the world to study under the Ukrainian curriculum and with Ukrainian teachers. She fosters a love of nature in her students and actively engages them in international initiatives such as the SSEP school space experiment programme, where they have achieved significant success,” Osvitoria said.

The organisers of the award say that this year’s competition was held for the eighth time to emphasise the importance of the teaching profession. A total of 1210 educators applied, and another 2059 teachers were nominated by parents of students, students and colleagues.

The finalists of the Global Teacher Prize in 2024 are as follows:

  1. History and geography teacher Vladyslav Akimenko (Lozova Lyceum No. 1 of the Lozova City Council, Kharkiv Oblast);
  2. teacher of Ukrainian language and literature Kateryna Korzun (Oleksiyivka Lyceum of Pokrovske Village Council, Dnipro Oblast);
  3. physical education teacher Oleksii Kachan (Zhmerynka Lyceum №3 in Vinnytsia region);
  4. English language teacher Tetiana Tkach (Kaharlyk City Council “Kaharlyk Lyceum №3” in Kyiv region);
  5. Larysa Romanyshyn, teacher of chemistry, physics and biology (Skole Secondary School No. 2, Lviv Oblast);
  6. Lesia Pavliuk, primary school teacher (Lyceum No. 7 of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council);
  7. History teacher Vladyslav Krongauz (Municipal Institution “Kharkiv Lyceum №3 of Kharkiv City Council”);
  8. Physics teacher Yaroslav Fedko (Cyril and Methodius Classical Gymnasium of Dnipro City Council);
  9. Algebra and geometry teacher Olha Enzelt (Pokrovska secondary school No. 9 in Donetsk Oblast);
  10. computer science teacher Oleksandr Dumyshynets (Lyceum of International Relations No. 51 in Kyiv).

On 5 October, Osvitoria will select a winner from among the ten finalists who will receive UAH 1 million to implement an educational project. In addition, the organisers will select the best preschool teacher and the winners in the nomination “Choice by Heart” from host Natalia Moseychuk.
