A new space of the Polonist Science and Information Center was opened at the Drohobytsk Pedagogical University

This Center in Drohobych has one of the largest libraries in Europe, where Polonistics is studied.

For 20 years, the Ivan Franko Drohobytsk State Pedagogical University has been operating the Polonist Scientific and Information Center named after Ihor Menko (hereinafter – the Polonist Center). During this time, on his initiative, 10 International Bruno Schulz festivals were held in Drohobych, the “Second Autumn” project was organized, 25 scientific conferences were organized, 300 scientists from 20 countries of the world visited Drohobych as a powerful cultural and educational center.

Today, September 20, in Drohobych, a new space of the Polonist Center was opened on the basis of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology, located on the street T. Shevchenko. Once upon a time, the Franz Joseph I gymnasium functioned here.

The opening of the new space was attended by the senator of the Republic of Poland Halyna Będa, the consul of the Polish Consulate in Lviv Nataliya Rudchyk, the deputy mayor of the Polish city of Bytom Stanislav Korman, the head of the Drogobytsky district military administration Stepan Kulinyak, the mayor of Drogobyt Taras Kuchma, honored guests and the secular and professorial community of Drogobytskyi of the university, who made every effort to make the center of Polish studies, which establishes international cooperation with universities and various cultural institutions of Poland, appear in an even more powerful format.

“First of all, these are great opportunities for students of the faculty of Ukrainian-Polish and Polish-Ukrainian studies.

Special thanks to the head of the Scientific and Information Polonist Center named after Ihor Menek – Vera Menek and professor, president of the association “Bruno Schultz Festival in Drohobych” – Grzegorz Yuzefczyk. They are the founders and one of the main engines for the development of polonistics in Drohobych.

Such cooperation is a form of understanding over international, interstate, interreligious, cross-border obstacles. Ukraine and Poland will forever remain friendly nations. We will always remember the helping hand at the most difficult moment for our country. Ukrainian-Polish relations and joint efforts in many directions are stronger than any seed of discord against the background of political battles,” said Stepan Kulinyak, head of the Drogobytsk RVA.

As told by the dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology of the DDPU named after Ivan Franko Petro Matskiv, this year there are already 30 students of the philological faculty of DDPU named after I.Franka underwent professional training at 5 universities in Poland thanks to the Erasmus+ student exchange program.

The Polonist Center in Drohobych has one of the largest libraries in Europe, where Polonistics is studied – Polish language, literature and culture. It has about 5,000 copies.

During the event, all those present honored the memory of the defenders who died in the fight against the Russian aggressor. Ukrainian and Polish anthems were performed by the municipal chamber choir “Legend”.
