Independence Day in Lviv started with honouring the defenders who fell for it

Today, 24 August, Ukraine celebrates the 33rd anniversary of its declaration of independence. The city began this day by honouring the memory of the fallen fighters for our country’s independence.

At the Lychakiv Cemetery, the participants lit candles and laid flowers at the graves of the Heroes and prayed together for all those who gave their lives for Ukraine.

The commemoration was attended by relatives of the defenders, the military, city leaders, including First Deputy Mayor of Lviv Andriy Moskalenko, and the region, clergy and the public.

As a reminder, a key event on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence will be a public lecture by Yaroslav Kendzor, a public figure and MP of six convocations who captured unique footage of Ukraine’s formation on his camera. The event will be moderated by actor and founder of the video blog “Squad of Moviegoers” Vitaliy Gordienko.

Lviv residents and guests of the city are also invited to attend themed events in different locations of the city.
