An Easter breakfast was organized for needy people in Lviv

On Bright Easter Sunday, a festive Easter breakfast was organized for people who, due to certain life circumstances, do not have the opportunity to experience the festive mood and spiritual atmosphere of Christ’s Resurrection in the family circle.

The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, shared a meal with those in need within the walls of the Ukrainian Catholic University.

Easter breakfast for 200 needy residents of the Lviv community was organized by the Department of Social Protection of the Lviv City Council together with the Ukrainian Catholic University. The guests tasted traditional dishes of the Ukrainian Easter table: paska, eggs, cheese, butter, meat snacks, beets with horseradish and uzvar. Breakfast was preceded by joint prayer and consecration of pasaks.

“Every year we have a tradition of sharing the joy of Christ’s Bright Resurrection with those who need love, warmth and attention. Year after year, the city, together with public organizations, creates a festive mood for those in need. We have been organizing such breakfasts for Christmas and Easter for more than 15 years,” says Yevhen Boyko, director of the humanitarian policy department of the Lviv City Council.

An Easter breakfast was also organized at the Center for Registration and Overnight Stay of Homeless Persons on Kyrylivska Street. Traditional Easter dishes were tasted by about fifty people who do not have a home and use the services of the center. The breakfast was held by the City Department of Social Protection together with religious communities and benefactors, in particular the “Corporation of Good Deeds” and the Church of St. Anna. Such a meal at the Homeless Center takes place every year since its opening.

They also organized an Easter treat for Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homes because of the war and now live in a modular town in Sikhiv. A festive lunch was held in the kitchen of each modular house. The refreshments were prepared by the Salesian Congregation of the UGCC. In addition, each family received a package containing sausage, ham, eggs and horseradish. Greetings to the families who live here, as well as in the shelters on the street. Kryvonosa and st. Ternopilsk, it was handed over the day before, on Saturday. The festive meal was preceded by a joint prayer for victory.

In general, the tradition of organizing Easter and Christmas festive treats for needy people in Lviv has been going on for over 15 years. Festive tables are laid by the Lviv City Council together with churches, religious and public organizations and communities, everyone who cares.
