On the occasion of the Ivan Franko Lviv National University Day, scientists were honored with honorary awards

In 2023, 8,200 young people became university students.

Today, October 11, a solemn meeting of the Academic Council was held on the occasion of the Ivan Franko Lviv National University Day. The participants of the event were professors of the higher educational institution, deans, teaching staff, student youth, representatives of the regional and city authorities.

Ivan Franko National University provides more than 300 educational programs. This year, the number of applications for admission from applicants is the highest in the last few years. In 2023, 8,200 young people became university students.

“For the second year in a row, the Day of our university is celebrated during the great war. Ukrainians are choosing not only their independence and the right to their own identity, but also their future as a nation. Among our defenders today are teachers, employees and graduates of the Ivan Franko National University. Unfortunately, there are those whom we have lost. Now the mission of the university is to carry out its professional activities on a daily basis, to ensure the national-patriotic education of students, to support the volunteer movement and initiatives that contribute to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” emphasized the rector of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Volodymyr Melnyk.

After that, a solemn awarding ceremony for university employees began. Three teachers were awarded the honorary award “Honored Professor of Ivan Franko Lviv National University”.

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine, Oksana Melnyk was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Culture” for her significant personal contribution to the development of national education and conscientious performance of her professional duties. She is a senior teacher of the Department of Choral Singing of the Faculty of Culture and Arts.

Professor Mykola Nazaruk was awarded an honorary certificate of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, unfortunately, posthumously. Maksym Kozytskyi, head of Lviv OVA, presented the award to the professor’s son, a graduate of the university – Yuriy Nazaruk.

“I am grateful to the teaching staff and all the employees for the fact that this higher educational institution preserved and increased the academic spirit, the atmosphere of intellectual freedom and respect for human dignity, which was filled by all those who worked here throughout the long history of the university’s existence. A low bow to the employees and students of the university who served or are serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces. Let all those who are currently on the front line return to their loved ones and to their favorite cause as soon as possible, healthy, unharmed and victorious. A bright memory to all those we lost in this war. Thank you to all the participants of the educational process who create LNU as a community,” emphasized the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi.

For conscientious work, significant achievements in professional activity and on the occasion of the Ivan Franko Lviv National University Day, the Lviv OVA awarded:

Vasyl Kurlyak – vice-rector for educational, production and administrative and economic work, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor of the department of experimental physics;
Andrii Stasyshina – Dean of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Public Administration;
Ivan Krupskyi – Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Theory and Practice of Journalism;
Hryhoriya Dmytriva – Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor;
Oksana Surmach – director of the separate structural unit “Pedagogical Vocational College”, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor;
Stepan Mudroho – Head of the Department of Physics of Metals, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor;
Lyubov Khmelnytska – chief accountant of the accounting service of the university;
Ivan Kunya – deputy head of the research department, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, senior researcher.
