Awards to soldiers, thanks to volunteers and gifts to children: how will Drohobych celebrate St. Nicholas’ Day and Armed Forces Day?

This year, for the first time, Ukrainians will celebrate St. Nicholas’ Day according to the new church calendar – December 6. Traditionally, it is on this day that the Drohobytsk community begins celebrating the cycle of Christmas and New Year holidays, opening the Christmas tree and holding other festive and charity events.

Also, December 6 marks the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a day earlier Ukrainians will celebrate Volunteer Day. These are symbolic holidays, which are especially significant now, during the full-scale war in Ukraine. Therefore, all events will be closely intertwined with the commemoration of our military defenders, volunteers, as well as support for the children and families of fallen Heroes.

Traditionally, on December 6, the holiday of Nicholas and the opening of the Christmas tree for children will take place. It will be installed again near the People’s House, so that Rynok Square remains a free space for joint prayer and commemoration of fallen Heroes – defenders of Ukraine.

The opening of the Christmas tree will take place on December 6 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a concert at the People’s House at 5:00 p.m. with the participation of the Honored Carpathian Song and Dance Ensemble of Ukraine “Verkhovyna”.

The presence of an official delegation from the sister city of Bytom and the mayor of Bytom, Mariusz Volosh, who was previously awarded the title of honorary citizen of the city of Drohobych by the decision of the session of the Drohobych city council, will add to the prestigious status of the event – for his constant support and repeated assistance to the Drohobych community and Ukraine in general.

During the event, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who defend Ukraine from the enemy, and volunteers who help bring victory closer, will be honored. Children, in turn, will be able to feel the festive atmosphere and receive gifts from St. Nicholas.

We would like to remind you that on the occasion of celebrating the Christmas and New Year holidays in Drohobych, Stebnik and the villages of the community, a series of events will be held, the purpose of which is to spread the festive atmosphere, to revive patriotism and the traditions of authentic Ukrainian carols among the population, as well as to support those who find themselves in difficult life circumstances and need help
