For the Independence Day of Ukraine, the Tourist Information Center has developed a new excursion route through the renamed streets and spaces of Lviv. The route is laid through 5 renamed streets. The tour will last approximately 1.5 hours, during which they will tell more about the extraordinary personalities for Lviv, in whose honor the streets were named.
“One of the main tools of the workers of tourist information centers is a map on which they show visitors where certain tourist objects, spaces, parks are located. They call the guests new street names and not everyone understands where it is. Every resident of Lviv is now learning new street names for themselves and trying to associate the city with them. Therefore, the idea arose to research the stories of the people in whose honor some streets were renamed, and to offer residents and guests of the city a walk along this route,” said Khrystyna Lebed, head of Lviv’s tourism department.
The new excursion route was developed by Yevhen Gulyuk, an employee of the Tourist Information Center, historian and tour guide.
“Independence Day is always a great opportunity to get to know yourself better! In Ukraine, public space has begun to be cleansed of the poisonous vestiges of the colonial and communist past. Detoxification of the social organism also occurs at the level of street names, squares and public spaces. Over the past year, a lot has been done in this direction in Lviv. Therefore, we invite you to take a walk around the city, where the main emphasis will be on the renamed locations. Let’s talk about the names of squares and streets, unusual local residents and curiosities from their lives. The route will run between Taras Bobanych and Yuriy Ruf streets,” the tour guide notes.
The excursion route runs through the following streets: NTSH Square – Ivanichuk Square – Taras Bobanych “Hammer” Street (formerly Korolenko) – Igor Dashka (Filatov) Street – Patriarch Dimitriy Yaremy Street (Chekhov) – Panchyshyn Square – Yuriy Rufa Street (Nekrasova). It should be noted that the route is made up of these streets because they are comfortable for one comprehensive walking tour, however, the Tourist Information Center assures that they will work on creating new tours that will also include other streets renamed.
The first excursion along this route will take place tomorrow, August 23, at 9:00 a.m. Meeting place – Lviv Tourist Office, str. Ruska 20.
