A four-meter Christmas Santa was installed in Lviv

For many years in a row, on the eve of Christmas in Lviv, the main grandfather of the city has been installed. Today, January 6, the traditional symbol of the Christmas holidays was ceremoniously placed on Yavorskyi Square, but the event had to be postponed due to an air threat.

Due to the threat of an enemy air strike, an air alert was announced in Lviv. However, carol singers who came to grandpa’s opening did not get lost and sang carols in the shelter.

After the alarm was disarmed, the mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy, together with children, deputies, military personnel, honorary citizens of the city and immigrants, accompanied by a carol, set off from Rynok Square to Yavorskyi Square, where the main grandfather of the city was installed.

This year, the mayor of occupied Skadovsk, Oleksandr Yakovlev, visited the opening of Lviv’s Christmas Santa Claus. Andrii Sadovy gave him a grandfather as a symbol of passing on the traditions of our city. The length of this grandfather is 1 meter.

“Very often in our country they say: “Grandfather to the house – all evil is out of the house.” Everyone imagined evil in their own way. Now we all know what evil looks like. Even today, she wanted to interfere with us, and had to spend two hours in the shelter, but our traditions win, no matter how hard the enemy tries. We always get up, go forward and win. Maybe this year there is not as much joy as there is always at the holidays, but I believe that each of us has this light, love inside us.

Now I am holding in my hands a reduced copy of our city grandfather and I want to present it to the mayor of Skadovsk. Skadovsk is currently under occupation, but we believe that our troops will return it very quickly. And already next year, you from Skadovsk will give us your Skadovsk grandfather,” said Andriy Sadovy.

We will remind you that the main grandfather of the city is traditionally prepared for the holidays by the masters of the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life. K. Sheptytskyi. Its height is almost 4 meters. It consists of several dozen small grandfathers.

“This handsome giant grandfather seems to take us back to the times when the oldest member of the family brought a sheaf of corn into the house and told stories to the children. Grandfather is a guarantee of passing on family traditions, a symbol of prosperity and hope that the Lord will continue to be kind to us. This is a very good reminder at Christmas time to thank God and ask for support, strength and victory,” said Fr. Mykhailo Biletskyi, abbot of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord UGCC.

Carols from the “Homin” choir, the “Zhaivir” choir and the “Namisto” collective rang out near the main grandfather of the city.
