Today is the Day of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The flag of the Ukrainian Air Force was raised from this hill near the Lviv City Hall.
The Air Force Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been celebrated annually on the first Sunday of August since 2007 in accordance with the relevant decree of the President of Ukraine. This year, the holiday falls on August 4.
The Air Force of Ukraine is one of the main carriers of the combat potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This highly maneuverable branch of the Armed Forces is designed, together with the Air Defense Forces, to protect the state’s airspace, to strike enemy targets from the air, to provide air support to its own troops, to land airborne assault forces, to transport troops and material, and to conduct air reconnaissance.
The Air Force was created in 2004 by merging two types of military forces: The Air Force and the Air Defense Forces of Ukraine.
