During the bad weather on 14-15 July, lightning struck the overhead power lines in Lviv three times. The most significant, third, lightning strike to the tram and trolleybus intersection occurred today at 6:19 am at the intersection of Chornovil and Svobody avenues (towards the city centre). The damage has already been repaired, and electric transport is operating as usual. This was reported by Lvivelectrotrans.
During the emergency work, the power supply was cut off, so trolleybus route 33 did not work at all, and trams 6 and 7 temporarily ran on changed routes.
Despite the bad weather, Lvivelectrotrans’ emergency crews replaced the damaged part of the network as quickly as possible – within two hours.
As of now, trolleybus No. 33 and trams No. 6 and No. 7 have resumed running on their usual routes.
Earlier, lightning struck network elements on Horodotska Street and later on John Paul II Avenue.
“The most difficult thing in such situations is to determine the location of the damage. Sometimes it takes longer to test the network than to eliminate the consequences. We would like to thank all emergency services for their prompt work and Lviv residents for their understanding and patience. Given the high humidity, which still persists and is an unfavourable factor for the operation of electrical equipment, please take into account possible changes in the operation of electric transport today,” summed up Olga Bachynska, public relations and press specialist at Lvivelectrotrans.
