As reported by Iryna Marunyak, the deputy mayor of Lviv for housing and communal services, currently trams and trolleybuses are not running due to icing on the contact network.
“Now the emergency crews of LKP “Lvivelectrotrans” are working to remove the wet blocks of ice that have formed on the catenary network. As soon as it is possible to eliminate everything and there will be no further accumulation of ice, the movement of electric transport will be restored,” said Iryna Marunyak.
“During the night, running-in was carried out on all routes. Around 6:00 a.m., it started to rain, which quickly turned into ice on the tram and trolleybus power grid at sub-zero temperatures.
Therefore, only a part of trams and trolleybuses were able to enter the line, which now actually have no opportunity to continue moving. Given the lack of progress in improving weather conditions, it is difficult to predict the resumption of traffic as of now. “Lvivelectrotrans” LKP emergency crews work in an intensified mode to restore the movement of trams and trolleybuses in the city at the slightest opportunity,” Lvivelectrotrans LKP explained.
