Due to power outages, communities in Lviv region are advised to purchase electronic sirens

Most electronic sirens are installed in Yavoriv, Stryi and Lviv districts.

Due to a power shortage in the power grid during air raids, electromechanical sirens may not work in all settlements of Lviv Oblast, as they need power to operate properly. Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, urged communities to purchase electronic sirens that have a backup power supply and can operate even during blackouts.

Providing each siren with a generator is too expensive due to the cost of generators and the need to install automatic machines for backup. The use of electronic sirens with backup power will help to avoid these problems. Therefore, communities that have not yet done so are strongly advised to purchase such sirens for the safety of the population.

Since 2021, the Lviv Regional State Administration has been financing the purchase of electronic sirens from the regional budget as part of the Safe Lviv Region programme. Thanks to this programme, 143 electronic sirens were installed in the region’s communities in 2022-2023, and 21 additional warning units have been installed since the beginning of 2024. Most electronic sirens were installed in Yavoriv, Stryi and Lviv districts.

We would like to remind you that if the siren is in good working order but does not sound, you should contact the city, village or settlement council. All communities have appointed those responsible for the operation of the warning system, and they know what to do and where to go in such cases.
