These days, the 6th International Forum of Commonwealth and Community Cooperation of Lviv Region and Sumy Region was held in Sumy Region. Drohobych was represented by the delegation of the city of Kotermak, headed by the first deputy mayor Roman Beyzyk, as well as Lesya Peleshchak, the authorized person for the prevention and detection of corruption, and Vitaly Moiseyenko, the coordinator of cooperation between the communities of Lviv and Sumy regions. The heads of territorial communities of Lviv Oblast and Sumy Oblast, numerous experts, representatives of international charitable organizations and foundations were also invited to the forum.
During the event on the information platform for discussions, delegations exchanged experiences and worked out practical steps for the further development of communities, taking into account the risks, challenges and threats of today.
On behalf of the Drohobych Territorial Community, the first deputy mayor of Drohobych, Roman Beizyk, greeted the participants of the forum, who told the audience about the challenges that the city faced with the full-scale invasion, the influx of IDPs, the relocation of businesses, the burden on medicine and the city’s economy.
The result of the Forum was the signing of Memorandums of Cooperation between communities of Lviv region and Sumy region: in particular, between Romensk and Drohobytsk communities, as well as Bezdrytsk and Rudkivsk. The cooperation agreement was signed by the mayor of Romna Oleg Stogniy and Roman Beizyk, the first deputy mayor of Drohobych.
The head of the city of Romny emphasized that the signed agreements open up new opportunities for joint development, exchange of experience and resources between communities of Lviv region and Sumy region. In particular, they plan to establish cooperation in the field of tourism, youth policy and education, as well as to expand the implementation of joint cultural, sports and economic initiatives.
I am convinced that these are only the first steps on the way to fruitful cooperation between communities that are united by a common goal – the development of territories, the implementation of joint projects, the involvement of humanitarian missions in the field of reconstruction of cities and villages and assistance to categories of citizens affected by the war. The signed agreements open up new opportunities for the joint development of communities, exchange of experience and resources, Oleg Stogniy, the head of the city of Romny, emphasized.
In his turn, Roman Beyzyk emphasized that the Drohobytsk community is always positive about establishing cooperation with new cities. After all, the exchange of experience and the borrowing of interesting initiatives are always beneficial.
The spirit of Cossacks and love for one’s land and Ukraine in general hovers in your city. You went through a very difficult period – Romny was partly under occupation, important infrastructure facilities were destroyed. However, your indomitability and faith, and most importantly unity, helped you repel the enemy and get on the road to the new development of your own city. We are proud of you, ready to support and help you in your endeavors. Signing an agreement on cooperation between our cities will enrich our communities, bring novelty to the established life processes and jointly help bring victory closer, Roman Beyzyk emphasized.
In addition to the busy official part of the International Forum of the Commonwealth, Drohobych’s delegation visited the famous historical places of Sumy Oblast, ancient churches and visited the monument to the last basket chieftain of Zaporozhye Sich, Peter Kalnyshevskyi.
