A resident of Drohobych who grew up without parental care got his own home

These days, 23-year-old Andriy Glukh from Drohobych has received the keys to his own home in Stebnyk. Andriy is one of the children deprived of parental care, and his life is an example of endurance and determination.

Andriy lost his mother at an early age, and his father was deprived of parental rights. Since 2011, he had been registered as an orphan and a child deprived of parental care with the Department of Children’s Services of the Executive Committee of the Drohobych City Council. His grandmother, Yaroslava Dmytrivna, took custody of the boy and provided support and education.

Andriy completed his education at Higher Vocational School No. 19, where he mastered the speciality of carpenter (builder), installer of plasterboard structures. From 2016 to 2021, he also studied at the 2nd Special Rapid Response Centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, where he received the profession of Mountain Rescuer.

After reaching the age of majority, Andriy was removed from the register of orphans and children deprived of parental care, and in 2020 he was enrolled in the housing register at the Executive Committee of the Drohobych City Council.

As a result, with co-financing from the regional and local budgets in the amount of 60% and 40% respectively, Andriy purchased a one-bedroom apartment in Stebnyk with a total area of 39.8 sq m. The new apartment is located in a convenient residential area, close to shops, a kindergarten and a school. This creates all the conditions for a comfortable stay for the young rescuer.

On Friday, 22 November, the head of the community Taras Kuchma, the deputy head for humanitarian and social relations Yuriy Kushlyk and a specialist of the department for children’s affairs Maria Kostyk came to congratulate Andriy and hand over the keys to the new home. The mayor congratulated Andriy on this important event in his life, wished him happiness and prosperity and expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the good cause.

This is an important event not only for Andriy, but also for our entire community. We are glad to be able to help a man who makes a lot of effort to ensure the safety of our residents. We wish Andriy peace in his new home, and may it become a centre of warmth, joy and new achievements. We thank everyone who contributed to this good deed, the members of the city council and the regional leadership represented by Maxim Kozitsky, Ivan Sobko and Vladimir Lis. May you be happy, Andriy, we are happy and rooting for you!’ said Taras Kuchma.

Now Andriy works as a rescuer at the 2nd Special Rapid Response Centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Getting his own home has become not only a material support for him, but also a symbol of the beginning of a new stage in his life.
