The central stadium in Gostomel, which was destroyed by Russians during the occupation of Kyiv region, has been restored. On the eve of Gostomel’s city day, Olena Zelenska and players of FC Dynamo visited the restored stadium.

In addition to the renovation of the stadium itself, one of the key events was the unveiling of a mural entitled “More than football”. This work was created by artists from Drohobych, Serhii and Vitalii Hrekhy. Their work has gained symbolic meaning not only for the sports community, but also for the community as a whole. The artists also involved young players from the local Phoenix football team in the project, who left their drawings and autographs on the mural.

“We decided to restore a favourite training place for young players. We also managed to add a bright accent to the stadium in the form of a modern mural. “More than football” is the title of the work by Ukrainian artists, brothers Serhiy and Vitaliy Grekhov. Under their supervision, players of the local children’s football team Phoenix also left their drawings and autographs on the mural,” First Lady Olena Zelenska wrote on her official Facebook page.

In addition to the mural, two new mini-pitches were set up at the stadium, outdoor lighting was installed, the electronic scoreboard was restored and the roof of the stand was replaced. The locker rooms and coaching rooms were also renovated.

The Central Stadium in Gostomel, which was half destroyed by the Russians, was restored by the Olena Zelenska Foundation. The Munich football team Bayern Munich also joined in.

The Grekhy brothers from Drohobych continue to create important art projects that embody cultural and social messages, and their contribution to the restoration of Gostomel is another step towards the revival of Ukrainian identity through art.

As teenagers, they started painting graffiti on abandoned buildings, and now their work is recognisable in many cities in Ukraine and abroad. The artists successfully combine street art, painting and graphic design.
