Where will the swans from Lake Levandivske spend the winter?

A pair of white swans from the Lake Levandivske park have already been taken away for wintering. The birds will stay in Stryi Park until the lake freezes over.

Last year was a bit different. The swans that live in the Lake Levandivske park successfully overwintered in the wild. They were a real decoration of the snowy park. To keep the lake from freezing during the frost, the employees of Sknyliv Park turned on the pump that supplied water from the well. This year, the birds were taken from the lake for wintering to the Home of Rescued Animals.

“Firstly, one of the swans had a fishing cord on its paw, which had to be removed. Secondly, the emergency retaining wall of the lake is currently being repaired. The water in the lake had to be lowered slightly. This is not critical, but in the event of frost, if the swans were to remain, we would have to supply water from the well. And this would complicate the repair. In addition, it is not known what the situation with electricity will be like, as winter blackouts have a negative impact on the pump’s operation,” explained Sknyliv-Park.

Meanwhile, the swans still remain in Stryi Park. Until the lake freezes over due to severe frosts.

“Then these birds will be taken to the Lviv City Children’s Ecology and Nature Centre on Kubanska Street for several months. The centre is adapted to the long-term residence of birds. And the swans will be able to come into contact with water throughout the winter,” the park administration said.
