Lviv restorers restored the historic fan door on Tarnavskyi Street

In Lviv, a historic fan door was restored in a building at 25 Tarnavskyi Street. The so-called “cowboy doors” have an opening system that allows them to be opened both inward and outward. Specialists worked on their restoration for about three months.

“Although the door opening system worked properly, the deformation of the door leaf in the upper part led to the friction of the lower part of the leaves against the floor. Because of this, someone decided to cut them a little. The doorway of this door is covered with wooden panels and framed around the perimeter with a decorative molding. On the inside, the molding was preserved in its authentic form, but on the outside, the molding was lost. We restored it all,” said restorer Ihor Dobryanskyi.

Specialists also restored the lost door fixing mechanisms, which left holes in the lower part. They decided not to install handles on the doors, because they did not find any old traces of them. All the lost elements of the door below have been restored.

“The cost of restoration works is about UAH 52,900. The contribution of the residents amounted to about UAH 15,000, and the rest is the funds of the German Eberghard Schöck Foundation, which this year supported our Program for co-financing the restoration of valuable elements in historic buildings,” said Pavlo Bogajchyk, director of the “Heritage Bureau” LKP.

We will remind you that a metal gate was recently restored in the same building on Tarnavskyi Street.
