Supporting war veterans and their families is a priority in Lviv. From 2016 to 2022, children of ATO/JFO participants who were killed (missing) or died, and of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, were paid financial assistance on St. Nicholas Day in the amount of UAH 10,000. During this time, 912 children (under the age of 18 or under 23 if they are studying full-time at a university) received assistance.
In addition, from 2015 to 2022, children of ATO/JFO participants, injured participants of the Revolution of Dignity and Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred were provided with one-time financial assistance for health improvement. During this time, 3178 children of defenders received such payments (under the age of 18 in the amount of UAH 3, 4, 6 and 7 thousand per child, depending on the category). Applications for these programs were accepted by the Lviv Center for Services to Combatants, located at 41 Pekarska Street.
At the end of 2023, Lviv approved a new comprehensive support program for war veterans and relatives of families of fallen (deceased) defenders of Ukraine to help and support them as much as possible. It includes many different areas: financial benefits, social and psychological assistance, medical treatment and rehabilitation, financial vouchers for business development, assistance in employment and education, recreation and leisure, etc. The city has allocated over UAH 480 million to implement the program in 2024. All structural units of the city council and deputy factions worked on the program, taking into account the new realities. About 80% of the program’s measures are already in place and are used by defenders and veterans. The program is envisaged until 2026.
