Temporary information centre to be set up at Lychakiv military cemetery

A temporary information centre will be set up at Lychakiv Military Cemetery in Lviv.

The relevant decision was approved by the executive committee of Lviv City Council on 18 June. At this point, visitors to the cemetery will be able to learn more about the heroes buried on this field, hear their stories, and get information about the location of a particular soldier’s grave. There will also be a bathroom and the opportunity to buy lamps and flowers.

Lychakiv Cemetery Museum was appointed as the contractor for the temporary information centre. A new entrance to the honorary burial field No. 86-A from I. Mechnykov Street, within the staircase, should be arranged, and a temporary structure should be transported and installed at the entrance. And also, to ensure the sale of flowers and lamps there. And together with the tourism department, develop a concept for an information centre.

This will be a temporary post until the Memorial to the Heroes of Ukraine is erected in this space.

In April, an architectural competition for a memorial complex for the war graves of the Heroes of Ukraine on I. Mechnikov Street was held in Lviv. The competition was won by the team of architects Viktor Golubev and Dmytro Reifschneider. You can see the winning project, its features and main accents here.

We would like to add that the Lviv City Council is currently discussing the project of the Heroes of Ukraine memorial with the families of the fallen defenders. During these meetings, families ask questions about the future memorial, make suggestions, and discuss the details of its implementation.
