From now on, Zolochiv will have two new tennis courts with a ground surface. The project was implemented thanks to a philanthropist from the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States, Mr Yaroslav. In this way, he is fulfilling the will of his mother, Olha Lisevych, who directed her fortune to support Ukrainian children and their future. In addition to supporting sports initiatives, Yaroslav helps orphans and families affected by the war.
“It’s interesting that tennis appeared here in the early 80s, but high-quality ground courts are only available today. Currently, there are more than 100 children in the community who play tennis on a regular basis. It’s great when local governments are able to attract charitable assistance not only to solve immediate problems, but also to such projects with a long-term effect,” said Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
In total, the courts will be used by about 140 children, and high-quality sports infrastructure will only contribute to the development of tennis in Zolochiv district. According to experts, the courts are one of the best grass courts in Lviv region.
Young tennis player Vladyslava Ukrainets said: “I have been playing tennis for three years. Before that, I trained on an asphalt court. It seemed to me that such a professional court in Zolochiv was only a dream. And today it is no longer a dream. I am grateful to the sponsors for the professional tennis courts.”
Today, the Hromada is looking for resources to build two more courts, as having four playing fields gives it the right to hold official all-Ukrainian competitions.
