After the hacker attack on the e-ticket, public transport in Lviv is operating as usual, cards are being validated

The Cyber Police is investigating the fact of unauthorized access to the e-ticket system, criminal proceedings have been initiated and entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations.

As reported by the City Hall, public transport is currently operating as usual, the cards are being validated, and funds will be debited from them later. All relevant services are working to restore full system operation.

“As of now, colleagues from Lvivavtodor have transferred the operation of the e-ticket system to, so to speak, autonomous mode, and certain functions have been disabled in order to prevent other threats. Therefore, it is now impossible to check the balance and top up the account. Instead, validations in public transport are carried out in the usual way. Passengers can attach both bank cards and LeoCards to the validators, the information is read and recorded in the system. Therefore, the controllers will be able to check whether the fact of validation has taken place. Only withdrawal of funds will be postponed.

I would like to note that on this occasion Lvivavtodor turned to the cyber police in order to find out all the circumstances and make such situations impossible. Therefore, we are waiting for the relevant conclusions from the cyber police department,” said Oleg Zabarilo, director of the department of urban mobility and street infrastructure of the LMR.

The cyber police department of the National Police of Ukraine is investigating the hacker attack.

“According to this fact, criminal proceedings were opened under Article 361, part 5. From Saturday, cyber security employees of the cyber police department are conducting research and inspections of server equipment, virtual machines in order to establish the schemes and order in which the intervention was carried out, as well as in order to identify the persons involved to this hacker attack and bringing them to criminal responsibility,” said Ilya Togayev, deputy head of the cybercrime countermeasures department in the Lviv region.

Mykola Vlasyuk, the director of LKP “Lvivavtodor”, explained that now all types of cards can be validated in the public transport of the Lviv community, and funds will be debited from them later. For passengers, only two functions were limited: top-up and review of the card balance.

We will remind, on the night of March 29, a hacker attack on the electronic ticket system in Lviv was recorded.
