At the 43rd session of the Drohobych City Council, the meeting of which was held on October 26, with 30 votes “for”, local deputies supported the decision to award the title of “Honorary Citizen of Drohobych” to Mariusz Volosh, the president of Bytom, Drohobych’s sister city.
The Drohobytskyi City Center of Social Services submitted a corresponding request for the award of “Honorary Citizen”. The decision reads: “For a special contribution to the development of cooperation between Drohobych and Bytom, a significant contribution to helping the residents of Drohobych and Ukraine in peacetime and wartime, taking into account the recommendations of the city council’s permanent commission on education, culture, youth policy, family, sports the Council decided to award the title of “Honorary Citizen of the City of Drohobych” to the Mayor of Bytom, Mariusz Volos, Republic of Poland.
In turn, the mayor of Drohobych, Taras Kuchma, before voting for this draft decision, emphasized that Mariusz Volosh has been supporting the residents of Drohobych and the IDPs on a large scale since the first days of the war and is helping to bring Ukraine’s victory closer. Numerous humanitarian shipments from the twin city of Bytom and its president have been arriving systematically and continue to arrive. All-round assistance includes ambulances, medicines, equipment and furniture for arranging housing for internally displaced persons.
Poland has intensively supported Drohobych since the first days of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The most necessary help is directed to us. The President of Bytom, Mariusz Volos, was one of the first to personally arrive at the Polish-Ukrainian border and brought an ambulance with the necessary humanitarian cargo. These medicines were necessary for our soldiers. Later, several trucks with rubber aid arrived in Drohobych, both for IDPs and for Ukrainian soldiers and the Polish community of the city. Help comes to this day and is an important support for us in times of war. So thank you for the friendly shoulder of support in this difficult time for Ukraine, – commented the mayor of Drohobych, Taras Kuchma.
