Another Swiss city to donate trams to Lviv

Basel, Switzerland, will donate 23-25 used large tramcars with a low-floor section to Lviv. And another 10 smaller trams will be donated as spare parts. This was announced by Oleh Zabarylo, Director of the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure at Lviv City Hall.

The transfer of electric transport to our city from Baselland Transport AG has been approved by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

“We have received the final approval and are now finalising all procedural issues. We expect the first railcars to be delivered in early 2025,” said Oleg Zabarylo.

The official added that Lviv will receive the first two cars from Bern by the end of September. As a reminder, Bernmobil is donating 11 low-floor trams to Lviv, as well as a rail grinding machine, additional spare parts and lifting devices for these trams.

We would like to add that this year Lviv received 12 used working trams from Berlin free of charge. 4 cars are already operating on the line.

It is worth noting that the city has recently significantly renewed its electric transport rolling stock. Thus, in 2021-2024, with loans from the European Investment Bank as part of the Urban Public Transport of Ukraine project Lviv has purchased 10 modern low-floor trams “Electron”.

To recap: At the end of September, the first Swiss trams, which have been operating there for 30 years, will arrive in Lviv
