Today, in the village of Bryukhovychi, within the limits of decolonization, the Soviet-era monument “Mother-Fatherland” was dismantled. The sculpture was made at the Lviv Ceramic and Sculpture Factory in 1956 and is a monument of history. It will be transferred to the Memorial Museum of Totalitarian Regimes “Territory of Terror”.
Also, in the Lviv community, the sculpture “Warrior” in Vynnyky should be dismantled. The monument is also a monument of history and it will also be transferred to the “Territory of Terror” museum.
We will remind you that the decision to dismantle these monuments was previously approved by the working group on the decolonization of toponymy in Lviv.
“At the meeting of the working group, a decision was made to dismantle and relocate several sculptures, as they fall under the elements of colonization. It was decided to move them to the “Territory of Terror” museum. The road map took some time, because these are attractions. And this complicates the process. But we went through all the procedures, got the necessary permits and today dismantled the first sculpture – “Mother-Fatherland” in Bryukhovychy. It will be kept in our museum of totalitarian regimes. Elements from the complex that was on the street are also stored there. Stryiska, and a number of other Soviet elements that were previously dismantled in Lviv”, – noted the first deputy mayor of Lviv Andriy Moskalenko.
In addition, in April 2022, a working group was created in Lviv, the main task of which is the decolonization of toponymy and the prohibition of the use of geographical names and symbols of Russia in the Lviv community. To date, according to the results of the working group, 50 streets have already been renamed in Lviv MTG.
