Red Cross Education and Training Centre opened in Drohobych

A Red Cross Education and Training Centre was opened in Drohobych on the basis of Lyceum No. 3 named after V. Chornovil to provide advice and raise the level of knowledge on first aid, mine safety and psychosocial support.

The opening of the centre by the Drohobych District Branch of the Lviv Regional Organisation of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society was made possible by the BraVo initiative ‘Organisations and Volunteering Development Programme’ and funding from the French Red Cross.

To ensure the effective functioning and conduct of training sessions, the centre purchased the necessary equipment, including mannequins, dummies, stands and other training materials that will allow it to conduct classes for several dozen people at a time and demonstrate important points visually.

Overall, the centre aims to help raise awareness of important and vital things among the community residents and ensure that training sessions are accessible to a wide range of people,’ said Oksana Tchaikovska, director of Lyceum No. 3 named after V. Chornovil, at the opening of the centre.

The newly opened centre will offer training on various topics, such as

– first aid – those wishing to attend will be taught how to act properly in emergency situations, provide emergency assistance and save lives,

– Mine risk – how to avoid the danger of explosive devices and how to act properly in risky situations,

– psychosocial support (PS) – training to improve mental health and stress management.

The main goal of the training centre is to provide vital knowledge and skills that can save lives, which is especially important in times of war.

Anyone can take part in the training (to do so, sign up for a class at the Drohobych City Organisation of the Ukrainian Red Cross – tel. 067 184 2817, 3 T. Shevchenko St.).

On the opening day of the Red Cross Education training centre, Drohobych was visited by representatives of the Lviv Oblast Organisation of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, the Western Interregional Office, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, police, the State Emergency Service, and the administration and teachers of Lyceum No. 3 named after V. Chornovil.
