A New Border Crossing Point Opens in Lviv Region: Nyzhankovychi – Malhowice

🚌 The new automobile border crossing point “Nyzhankovychi – Malhowice” is designed to accommodate passenger and cargo vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons.

🚶🏻 Pedestrian movement at the checkpoint will be introduced after completing the necessary infrastructure.

Located on the Polish side of the border, the crossing point provides joint customs and border control by Ukrainian and Polish officers. Although the agreement to establish the checkpoint was signed in 2012, construction began only in September 2021. The project was entirely funded by Poland, with 109 million zlotys allocated for construction and 36 million zlotys for project development.

🚛 From February 2023 to the fall of this year, the unfinished checkpoint was temporarily opened for empty trucks to reduce queues at the Ukrainian-Polish border and to ease traffic at other crossings.

The new checkpoint’s capacity includes:

🛣️ On the Ukrainian side, access to Nyzhankovychi is via the renovated road “Nyzhankovychi – Sambir – Drohobych – Stryi,” with over 46 km repaired using funds from a Polish loan.

🚗 Since February 24, 2022, automotive and railway routes have been Ukraine’s primary connections to the world. The Ukrainian-Polish border remains a key logistical element for defense, security, and international trade. About 90% of Ukrainians crossing the western border do so by car.

The next steps involve increasing border capacity, minimizing queues, and developing modern infrastructure to facilitate smoother integration between Ukraine and the EU.

🤝 Ukraine expresses gratitude to its Polish partners, the Polish government, representatives of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, particularly Governor Teresa Kubas-Hul, as well as the President and Government of Ukraine, for their significant contributions to developing international checkpoints in the Lviv region.
