Balconies in the building at 78 Heroiv UPA Street were repaired with co-financing from the city and residents
Lviv has a programme for repairing balconies in buildings that are not monuments. Last year, 49 balconies were repaired under this programme – 40 individual balconies and 9 common balconies. And this year, 21 balconies have been repaired, and repair work is underway on 34 balconies. In particular, as reported by the Frankivsk District Administration, the repair of 2 balconies in a house at 78 Heroiv UPA Street has recently been completed. As a reminder, the repair of balconies is co-financed – 80% is paid by the city and 20% is paid by the residents.
“Today, Lviv has a programme on co-financing: 80% of the funds are paid by the city, and 20% by residents, and it is possible to repair the balcony. Under this programme, 49 balconies were repaired in 2023, including 40 individual balconies and 9 common balconies. The city’s financial share was UAH 4.3 million. This year, we have already managed to repair 21 balconies, and repair work is underway on 34 balconies. We plan to repair the most balconies this year in the Halytskyi district. After all, this district has the most balconies. On average, the repair of one balcony costs UAH 60-100 thousand. It is worth noting that balconies are private property. Therefore, residents are obliged to make sure that this part of their home is in good condition,” says the Department of Housing and Infrastructure of the Lviv City Council.
Last year, all balconies in apartment buildings in Lviv were inspected. They found 9,270 individual balconies and 4,201 common balconies to be in poor condition. As a result, residents who own apartments with dangerous balconies were told what programmes they could use to repair their balconies.
Residents who own balconies in architectural monuments can apply for the Co-financing Programme for the Restoration of Balconies in Residential Buildings with Architectural Monuments to repair their balconies. For more information on this programme, please contact the Department of Historic Environment Protection. And the documents will need to be submitted to the ASC;
Owners of individual balconies in buildings that are not architectural monuments and are in poor condition can apply for a special programme to support co-owners of apartment buildings in carrying out urgent or major repairs, reconstruction, repair and restoration of common property in apartment buildings of the Lviv City Council. The balcony repairs will be carried out on a co-financing basis: 80% will be paid by the city, and 20% by the resident. More information about the co-financing programme is available here.
