Bicycle lane on Chornovil Avenue to be completed at extra-budgetary expense: work begins on Thursday
Tomorrow, on 3 October, the construction of a bicycle path on Chornovil Avenue will begin. It involves the asphalting of two sections – from house No. 65 to Pancha Street and from the Arsen shopping centre to Varshavska Street, with a total length of 973 metres.
The work will be carried out by Onur and financed by the developer, Lviv Investment Company. So after all the work is completed, the avenue will have a continuous bicycle lane that will connect the existing bicycle infrastructure on Varshavska Street and Lypynskoho Street.
“The construction of the cycle track on Chornovil Avenue began in previous years, so the sand and gravel base and curbs have already been arranged on these sections. Now all that remains is to asphalt it,” noted the Department of Housing and Infrastructure of the Lviv City Council.
It is planned that the work will last approximately one month.
We would like to add that another part of the bike lane on Chornovil Avenue, near the Arsen shopping centre, is being arranged by businesses in conjunction with the improvement. After all these works are completed, there will be a continuous bicycle lane along the avenue towards the city centre, which will connect the existing paths on Varshavska and Lypynskoho streets.
As a reminder, the length of Lviv’s bicycle network is currently over 130 km. In order to unite the entire existing bicycle network into one continuous network, the city needs to complete 18 more sections, 6.8 km long. “Such work has already begun in the Sykhiv district. Designers are working on some objects, and we are also looking for funds for these works,” said Orest Oleskiv, head of the transport department of the Lviv City Council.
