In Lviv, historical oak doors were restored in a building on the street. Staroyevreyska, 16. The work lasted about two months, as many elements of the gate needed to be restored.
“This oak door was in poor condition and had a lot of damage. Some of them could be seen immediately, others were hidden by old paint. The bottom of the door was completely destroyed, and the panels were cracked and badly damaged and needed replacement. The wooden canvas was damaged due to an unsuccessfully inserted lock. We had a lot of work ahead of us,” said master restorer Ihor Vardzal.
Instead of a skylight, a metal structure for an air conditioner was arbitrarily installed here. Specialists dismantled it, as well as the air conditioner itself. Having installed new glazing, the appearance of the skylight was also restored. Also, the gate now has a new lock and brass handles.
“The cost of restoration works is UAH 62,000. The contribution of the residents amounted to UAH 18,600, and the rest of the amount is the funds of the German Eberghard Schöck Foundation, which this year supported our Program for Co-financing the Restoration of Valuable Elements in Historic Buildings,” said Pavlo Bogajchyk, director of the Heritage Bureau of the LKP.
