From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Drohobych became a city behind the lines, welcoming more than 20,000 displaced people into its community.
Today, more than 9,000 people live within the territorial community, who were forced to leave their homes due to military aggression and settled in Kotermak.
In 2023, the Hromada commissioned a 32-apartment renovated house for IDPs in Stebnyk, and later a 12-apartment modular-frame house on P. Orlyka Street in Drohobych. The apartments were rented on a turnkey basis, complete with renovations and necessary furniture.
At the handover of the keys to the new housing in Drohobych, the city authorities announced that a similar building would be built next to this one.
The promise has been kept. The construction of a new modular-frame house on P. Orlyka Street started in June this year,” said Vasily Bokhonok, Director of the Capital Construction Department. “The building will be similar to the one put into operation.
As of today, construction work is 50% complete. Vasyl Bokhonok claims that the building will cost UAH 20 million. However, charitable organisations, including Move Ukraine and the International Health and Environmental Foundation “Region & Carpathians NEEKA”, have taken over the financing of all construction works, which will finance the work for UAH 15 million. Therefore, it is hoped that this project to build housing for IDPs will be submitted for additional funding from LOWA.
According to preliminary visions and plans, the building should be commissioned in autumn. All apartments will be renovated and furnished accordingly.
In Drohobych, there is a waiting list for IDPs to receive housing, with priority given to those who have found employment here, whose children study in local schools, and IDPs whose husbands are at war.
