By the end of July, the representatives of the TG should determine the directions of bicycle routes – tourist and daily.
The meeting was attended by representatives of structural subdivisions of Lviv OVA, local self-government bodies, cyclist associations, consultants of the Council of Europe, as well as experts involved in the development of the network of tourist routes, including bicycle routes.
The participants focused on understanding the importance of the joint project, its needs and role. The consultant of the Program “Strengthening good democratic governance and stability in Ukraine” Ihor Mohyla noted during his speech that almost all existing bicycle traffic in the agglomeration is concentrated at a distance of no more than 5 km to the border of Lviv. He also added that 13.7% of the number of residents who make trips, or 8.5% of the total number of residents of the agglomeration, are ready to use bicycles more often given the existing bicycle infrastructure. By the way, it should not be formal, but performed according to the relevant norms.
There are several ways to organize bicycle traffic:
– separate bicycle infrastructure along roads – necessary along main roads for fast and safe movement between individual marker points, as well as in places where high intensity of cyclist traffic is expected. In particular, it is about arranging the infrastructure of the entrances to the city of Lviv.
– a separate bicycle infrastructure outside the highways is necessary in certain areas to ensure comfortable and safe transit traffic in directions where a high intensity of cyclist traffic is expected.
– traffic on the road together with cars is allowed on separate local roads with minimum traffic intensity.
– specially prepared dirt paths are allowed in natural parks, along rivers, lakes or other natural attractions to ensure the possibility of cycling at the destination.
By the end of July, representatives of the territorial communities that are part of the Lviv agglomeration must determine within their borders the directions of bicycle paths, both touristic and intended for daily use, on which it is expedient to install bicycle infrastructure.
As Taras Lozynskyi, head of the Tourism and Resorts Department of the Lviv Regional Government Office, noted, bicycle infrastructure will significantly increase the tourism potential of communities, and thanks to it, according to preliminary estimates, about 2% of residents will switch to two-wheeled transport.
