Yurii Drohobych (1450-1494) was originally known as Kotermak. He was born in Drohobych in the family of a salt miner Mykhailo-Donat Kotermak. Yurii Kotermak was a scientist and astronomer, the first Ukrainian doctor of medicine. At the age of 31, he became the rector of the oldest university in Europe, the University of Bologna. He always emphasised that he was a Ukrainian and a native of Drohobych.

4 February 1494 – Yurii Drohobych died and was buried with honours in Krakow.
The event marking the 530th anniversary of Yuriy Drohobych’s death will take place at the monument to the famous scientist on Castle Hill Square.
