What should Lviv’s parks be like: the results of a survey of residents

The City Department of Ecology and Natural Resources investigated the opinion of residents in order to form a technical task for the maintenance of parks for 2023.

In particular, Oleksandra Sladkova, head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the LMR, focused on the main indicators of the study.

“Residents’ demand for the quality of paving paths, the availability of sources of drinking water, children’s infrastructure, flower gardens and the ability to buy coffee/ice cream has increased. At the same time, the demand for fountains, events and entertainment in parks decreased,” the official said.

According to the survey, the most visited were:

The survey showed that citizens have a positive perception of infrastructure development, and the difference in the maintenance of parks has become less noticeable.

“In the opinion of the residents of the community, more attention should be paid to: culture and recreation park, “Snopkivskyi”, “Znesinnia”, to finish the reconstruction of Zamarstinivskyi Park, “Biloghorshchi” and to continue the positive trends in Stryiskyi Park, pairs named after I. Franko and “High Castle”. We definitely need playgrounds where there are none, dog walking areas, more sports infrastructure in parks and cultural picnic areas. We have most of the possibilities for this in the planned budget.

There are still conflicting ideas about maintenance of landscaping. There are people who want the intervention to be minimal, and there are those who want the clearing of “thickets” and trees. But we try to act reasonably in every case,” Oleksandra Sladkova added.
