Lviv helps popularize the cultural heritage of Ukrainian cities. Today, the exhibition “Chernihiv. Heritage under fire.” Thus, the organizers want to draw attention to the cultural heritage of Chernigov, talk about the initiatives that are active in the city, and show what losses it suffered during the Russian occupation.<\/p>\n
“The history of Chernihiv dates back to the 7th century, when a small settlement appeared on the Stryzhen River. The city is known for its monuments from the times of the Chernihiv Principality, as well as the Hetmanship and the Chernihiv Cossack Regiment, which demonstrate the historical importance of the region.<\/p>\n
Like the Second World War, the current war greatly destroyed Chernihiv. Despite this, many architectural monuments have been preserved in the city, in particular, examples of wooden manors with exquisitely carved decoration of facades, similar to lace.<\/p>\n
We are infinitely happy that Chernihiv is today on Rynok Square in Lviv. This is an incredible opportunity to talk about the DNA of Chernihiv and the heritage that was preserved this spring. Sincere thanks that Chernihiv is in Lviv, and that now even more people in Ukraine will know about the wooden mesh,” said Kateryna Lytvyn, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Chernihiv City Council.<\/p>\n
In 2018, a project called “Wooden Lace of Chernihiv” was born in the city. “Its goal is the popularization and preservation of wooden houses. Chernihiv wooden lace is us, and we are Chernihiv. Wooden houses are an integral part of our culture, which must continue to exist against internal and external enemies,” Stanislav Ivashchenko, the author and head of the Chernihiv Wooden Lace project, notes.<\/p>\n
The idea of \u200b\u200bholding such an exhibition in Lviv belongs to the Department for the Protection of the Historical Environment of the LMR, in particular, its head – Lilia Onishchenko.<\/p>\n
“Chernihiv is a historical city. And we have a long-standing partnership in the field of heritage preservation. With the beginning of the war, we lost contact with our colleagues for 40 days, we were very worried about them, because Chernihiv was under fire. They did not have any information about the sights, including valuable churches of the X-XI centuries. and wooden lace.<\/p>\n
We know very little about Chernigov’s heritage, so we now offer Lviv residents to familiarize themselves with it in this way. I think that after the war there will be many people willing to visit this city. As well as Nova Kakhovka and our other cities.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the world will learn about our cultural heritage through war. Now Lviv has become a kind of contact center between the world and Ukraine, which is very often under fire or under occupation and does not have the opportunity to popularize its heritage. We do this, and it brings us pleasure,” Liliya Onyshchenko said.<\/p>\n
As Nataliya Alekseeva, head of affairs of the LMR executive committee, added, Lviv is ready to continue to be a platform for popularizing the cultural heritage of our indomitable Ukrainian cities.<\/p>\n
“Today, it is valuable that in every city there are people who represent our heritage from the heart and want to preserve it. In Chernihiv, this is a young team that stands up for the protection of heritage and wants to “ignite” not only Ukraine, but also all of Europe with this fire. And as long as we have such people with such values, this story of the indomitability of Ukrainian cities will have its continuation,” Nataliya Alekseeva added.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will take place on the square. The market, near the Amphitrite fountain, 3 weeks – until December 23.<\/p>\n
The exhibition is implemented with the cooperation of the Lviv City Council, the Department for the Protection of the Historical Environment of the LMR, the Heritage Bureau, the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Chernihiv City Council, the “Wooden Lace of Chernihiv” project, and the Kharkiv public initiative “dveryki.” and with the financial support of KREDOBANK JSC.<\/p>\n
