For almost a month, 69-year-old Mr. Roman from the Radekhiv district had stomach aches, especially after eating. The man constantly felt weak, but did not pay much attention to it. Over time, the condition worsened: the pain became unbearable, medicine did not help. Mr. Roman could no longer eat. He lost 20 kg in three weeks. It only got worse. Relatives sounded the alarm. Therefore, the man was taken to the hospital of Saint Panteleimon.<\/p>\n
The medical team immediately conducted a series of examinations. Conclusion of specialists after ultrasound and computer tomography – urgent operation is required. After all, atherosclerotic occlusion of the trunk of the upper mesenteric artery of the intestine was discovered. This is a complete overlap of the main vessel, which provides blood supply to most of the intestine. This ailment usually develops due to atherosclerosis of the vessels: deposition of cholesterol plaques on the artery wall. This became the cause of Mr. Roman’s illness.<\/p>\n
To save the man’s life, a team of vascular surgeons performed an urgent aorto-superior mesenteric bypass. In other words, the patient was fitted with a synthetic prosthesis that restored blood flow to the intestine.<\/p>\n
The intervention was complex and required high precision of surgical movements: delicately isolate, do not damage the vessels in the operated area and apply anastomoses – vascular sutures – perfectly precisely.<\/p>\n
The patient’s postoperative period was uneventful. The very next day after the intervention, Mr. Roman’s condition stabilized. So the man was transferred from the intensive care unit to the postoperative ward in the vascular surgery department. And on the tenth day, the man went home without any complaints.
