According to the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as of August 11, 2023, 499 children were killed and 1,097 were injured as a result of the war.<\/p>\n
At the same time, mass media periodically report on the illegal deportation of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia. Internet pages of Russian high-ranking officials also become a source of information about the facts of the transfer of Ukrainian orphans and children deprived of parental care to the Russian Federation and their placement in Russian families. The Commissioner’s Secretariat responds to all appeals from citizens regarding the search and return of deported children and forwards relevant information to law enforcement agencies and institutions, in particular, to the Prosecutor General’s Office for verification and response measures.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, millions of families with children were forced to leave the country for their lives. Such families face a number of problematic issues, so they need help. The most common issues with which assistance is requested are crossing the state border, obtaining and renewing identity documents, communication of the child with one of the parents who is in Ukraine, returning the child, etc.<\/p>\n
In order to provide assistance to families with children on the basis of the “single window” principle, a Consultation Center has been opened on the basis of the Commissioner’s Secretariat, where anyone can apply in person (Kyiv, Instytutska St., 21\/8) or by phone at 0800-50-17-20 (free within Ukraine), 044-299-74-08 (for calls from abroad).<\/p>\n
Yes, by contacting the Consultation Center, you can get clarification on:<\/p>\n
clarification of possible ways of returning the child or families with children to the territory under the control of the Government of Ukraine;
\nobtaining a child’s birth certificate under martial law or its legalization, if the document was obtained in an uncontrolled territory;
\nestablishing contact with a child who was taken abroad by one of the parents;
\nfilling out a form for searching for a child or an application for assistance to children who have been injured as a result of the war;
\nother issues related to human rights violations.<\/p>\n
