“These are not just shirts and towels – there are destinies behind each of them. The destinies of women, families, generations, the fate of our land. Destinies are different, sometimes happy, but in most cases \u2013 difficult and tragic. Each of them has its own story. A mother’s strongest prayer is sewn into a towel, a wife’s love – in embroidered patterns, a girl’s dreams – in pillows and aprons.<\/p>\n
All this is the boundless universe. And it is our task to preserve and nurture it for us, for the children, for the future,” says the Frank House.<\/p>\n
After Ukraine gained independence, Mrs. Bohdana began to collect “her collection” and present it in the library. Many exhibits from her own family collection, embroidery of her grandmother, mother. Some embroidered clothes were given by a fellow villager, and Mrs. Bohdana saved some because her descendants did not need them. Over the years, we managed to collect a lot of unique shirts, aprons, towels, embroidered decor and other household items, some of which we can see today at this exhibition.<\/p>\n
In this region, despite the hard times, occupation and persecution, women embroidered a lot, but, unfortunately, not so much has survived to our days. And thanks to the love of folk art, the nurturing of traditions and the hard work of such people as Mrs. Bohdana and her fellow villagers, it was possible to preserve so many beautiful embroideries.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will last from September 22 to October 5 at the address: Lviv, str. Ivan Franko, 150 (Franko House).<\/p>\n
