A traditional nationwide minute of silence was held throughout Ukraine. Later, in the center of Lviv, the fathers held an ecumenical memorial service for the victims of the famines of 1921-1923, 1932-1933 and 1946-1947. And so, the townspeople lit candles and lamps in memory of those who died of artificial hunger.<\/p>\n
Currently, 42 people who survived the Holodomor of 1932-1933 live in Lviv. Traditionally, the city paid them financial aid.<\/p>\n
As a reminder, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Holodomors and Political Repressions is commemorated in Ukraine annually, on the fourth Saturday of November. People light fires in the main squares of cities, towns and villages, in temples and in their own homes. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933, which was organized by the Soviet regime.
