Under the procedural leadership of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a doctor-surgeon of a separate unit-hospital of a communal non-profit enterprise of the city of Lviv was informed of the suspicion. He is charged with extorting and receiving an unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).<\/p>\n
According to the investigation, the suspect demanded and received an illegal benefit from a conscript for issuing him an extract from a medical card about the alleged presence of an illness, which is the basis for acquiring the status of unfit for military service.<\/p>\n
For 2,000 US dollars, the doctor, who is also a member of the freelance military medical commission, promised to provide an appropriate statement and influence the decision of the head of the VLK to declare a person temporarily unfit for military service.<\/p>\n
During the receiving of illegal benefits, which took place under the control of law enforcement officers, the doctor was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Investigative actions are ongoing, a petition to the court is being prepared to choose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention.<\/p>\n
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the investigators of the Investigative Department of the Main Department of the National Police of the region, operational support is provided by the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Lviv Region of the SSR of the National Police of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.<\/p>\n
