The sculpture of St John of Dukla from the dome of the rotunda in the Bernardine Courtyard was restored in the workshop of the Lviv Ceramic and Sculpture Factory.<\/p>\n
Now the restored figure is in a safe place. The sculpture will return to Bernardine’s Courtyard after the rotunda is restored, tentatively by the end of spring this year.<\/p>\n
“The figure, which was heavily damaged, was removed from the rotunda dome at the beginning of the full-scale war and transported to the workshop. There, before the restoration work began, they conducted a thorough study of the sculpture and found traces of gilding, which the restorers restored. Jan and the four stone vases will be returned to the dome after all the restoration work on the rotunda itself is completed, tentatively by the end of spring 2024,” said Lilia Onyshchenko, advisor to the mayor of Lviv on the preservation of cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
The sculpture was restored by Lviv restorer Taras Oleshchuk.<\/p>\n
The restoration work was funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland through the Polonika Institute.<\/p>\n
The rotunda, which dates back to 1748-1755, is part of the Bernardine Monastery complex, an architectural monument of national importance.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
