The illegal activity of the medical worker was exposed by operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region together with investigators of the regional police.<\/p>\n
According to the plan, the doctor promised the person liable for military service a positive decision of the military medical commission on his unfitness for further service. The cost of this service was $5,000.<\/p>\n
On Friday, 9 February, operatives detained a surgeon at a regional hospital immediately after receiving $5,000 in bribes. The money was seized and his workplace was searched.<\/p>\n
The doctor was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.<\/p>\n
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Lviv Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office in the Western Region.<\/p>\n
