Symphony No. 2 “Glory to Dnipro-Slavutich” by Viktor Kaminsky is unique in its synergy of music and words. The part of the chorus is based on a poem by the famous contemporary poet Bohdan Stelmakh. The powerful text of the symphony manifests the unity of Ukraine and the unity of Ukrainians in the struggle for a free and strong state. The symbols of the mighty Dnipro, leaders of the nation, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and Taras Shevchenko, unite and inspire the generation that today once again proves its indomitability and independence.<\/p>\n
The piece, written in the 1980s, had never been performed before. Composer Viktor Kaminsky sees the reason for this primarily in the ideas embedded in the text, which in the Soviet Union could not be heard from the stage. In addition, the figure of Bohdan Stelmakh, the author of the words, was under an unofficial ban before independence. And in the 1990s, due to the difficult economic situation (because the performance requires an expanded composition of the orchestra and choir), the work was forgotten for a long time.<\/p>\n
On April 7 at 19:00 in the Lviv Organ Hall, this historical injustice will be corrected: Symphony No. 2 will be performed by the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Luhansk Regional Philharmonic, the Lviv Municipal Choir “Homin” conducted by Ivan Ostapovich. The project is implemented at the initiative of the directors of the Lviv Organ Hall, Ivan Ostapovich and Taras Demko, within the framework of the Ukrainian Live promotion strategy of Ukrainian classics.<\/p>\n
The concert will be professionally recorded as part of the partnership program between the Lviv Organ Hall and Public Broadcasting, and the Kaminsky Symphony will soon be heard by Radio Kultura listeners.<\/p>\n
Also, a video recording of the performance of Symphony No. 2 will complement the collection of the first mobile application with Ukrainian music, Ukrainian Live Classic.<\/p>\n
