In exchange for a monetary reward, the orthopaedic traumatologist promised to give the serviceman a “fake” diagnosis that would grant him a deferral from mobilisation.<\/p>\n
The offender, a 59-year-old resident of Busk, was exposed by operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region and investigators of the Department for Investigation of Crimes in the Sphere of Official and Economic Activity of the Investigation Department of the Lviv Police, together with officers of the SBU Military Counterintelligence Department under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Specialised Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.<\/p>\n
As law enforcement officers found, an orthopaedic traumatologist at a hospital in Zolochiv district, a member of the permanent military medical commission, undertook to diagnose a person liable for military service for 15,000 hryvnias, which was later to become the basis for granting him a deferral from mobilisation for health reasons.<\/p>\n
Law enforcers detained the doctor under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in his office while he was receiving an illegal benefit.<\/p>\n
Cash and material evidence of the detainee’s involvement in illegal activities were seized.<\/p>\n
Investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence stipulated by Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official). 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.<\/p>\n
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
