The road accident occurred on 4 July at around midnight on the Kyiv-Chop motorway near the village of Kovyari, Lviv district.<\/p>\n
As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Renault Scenic, a 39-year-old Lviv resident, hit a pedestrian, a 68-year-old resident of Stryi district. As a result of the collision, the man was injured and died at the scene.<\/p>\n
Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Region Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.<\/p>\n
Pre-trial investigation is underway, law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.<\/p>\n
