On the instructions of First Deputy Mayor Dmytro Balko, employees of Kommunalnyk dismantled the letters of the old name of the town from the monument to Shakhtar today.<\/h2>\n

This was reported by the Sheptytsky City Council. Today, in Sheptytske, the letters of the old name of the city were dismantled from the monument to Shakhtar.<\/p>\n

For reference. The Hymn to Labour monument was unveiled on 25 August 1978 during the Miner’s Day celebrations.<\/p>\n

To recap: On 3 October 2024, deputies of the Chervonohrad City Council voted to change the name of the city council<\/a><\/p>\n

The idea arose after the jubilee exhibition of Lviv artists in 1976, where the attention of the townspeople was drawn to the sculpture “Miner” by Yosyp Sadovskyi, which was later used to create a monument.<\/p>\n

The story of the city’s name change from Chervonohrad to Sheptytskyi<\/h3>\n

In December 2023, the UINP reported that the Verkhovna Rada would rename Chervonohrad<\/a> due to the city’s name being associated with the implementation of Russian imperial policy:<\/p>\n

“In view of the above, the name of the city of Chervonohrad, Lviv region, as associated with the implementation of Russian imperial policy (the establishment of Soviet power on the territory of Ukraine), in accordance with subparagraph “e” of paragraph 4 of part one of Article 2 of the Law, belongs to the symbols of Russian imperial policy.”<\/p>\n

In turn, the Chervonohrad City Council studied the public’s opinion<\/a> on the options for a new name for the city. The community gathered in the hall did not support the renaming of the city. Nor did the deputies of the Chervonohrad City Council come to the same conclusion. Therefore, the name of the city was determined by members of the Verkhovna Rada.<\/p>\n
