The unique exhibits – forged drills and tongs by Yakiv Franko and a carpenter’s table by Zakhar Franko – were reported by employees of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve “Nahuyevychi”, a municipal institution of the Lviv Regional Council.<\/p>\n
“For decades, no one even imagined that in Nahuyevychi, next to Ivan Franko’s estate, in the neighbouring house of the family of the history teacher Liudmyla Shumeliak, we would ever be lucky enough to find carpentry equipment that belonged to blacksmith Yakiv Franko and his son Zakhar, which was later inherited by his grandson Hryhorii, who in 1946 became the first director of the restored Ivan Franko Museum in Nahuyevychi,” the museum workers said.<\/p>\n
Museum staff Bohdan Lazorak and Rostyslav Khmil, together with a representative of Hryhoriy Franko’s family, Yaroslav Shumeliak, examined the carpentry tools. Rare artefacts, such as a carpenter’s table with a clamp for extrusion and measuring tools for drawing, forged drills, two-handed saws and a carpenter’s straightedge, will complement the exposition of the Ivan Franko Museum and Estate and will be displayed in the restored Franko family barn. This is a historical place where the household of Yakiv and his sons, grandsons, and great-grandchildren existed for more than 160 years.
