In Lviv, doctors saved the leg of a diabetic patient who suffered a toe burn. The wound did not heal for months, the infection reached the bone and caused inflammation. Specialists at St. Luke’s Hospital successfully avoided amputation.<\/p>\n
Three months after the injury, the situation worsened: the toe turned blue, an infection developed, and osteomyelitis set in. The inflammation spread to the tendons and sole, threatening the loss of the foot. Doctors amputated the toe, cleaned the tissues, and applied VAC therapy.<\/p>\n
To close the defect, BTM covering was used thanks to the project of the Christian Medical Association \u2013 Burn Care Alliance with the support of Taiwan. This allowed the wound to be evened out and skin to be grafted from the patient’s thigh.<\/p>\n
Ivan Ryk from the Center for Thermal Trauma emphasized the complexity of treating such patients. Oleksandr Khorolenko expressed gratitude to the doctors and highlighted the importance of timely medical attention for diabetics when wounds appear.<\/p>\n
